CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the main computer component for processing instructions. A CPU receives input information from the user, operating system, applications, and software programs. The information processes, and the CPU sends an output to an application or displays the result on the screen.
A CPU contains at least one processor chip (a core) for performing calculations, and multiple chips indicate a multi-core CPU. For example, a CPU with two processor chips is known as dual-core.
