What Is FDDI (Fiber Distributed Data Interface)?

Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDII) is a network procedure that utilizes fiber optic in a Local Area Network (LAN). The standard extends the range up to 124 miles (200 kilometers) and supports thousands of users.

Once a backbone for Wide Area Networks (WANs) and Campus Area Networks (CANs), FDII has been replaced by alternative networking technologies.
