A management information base (MIB) is a hierarchical database of network objects that describe a device monitored by a network management system (NMS). An NMS monitors nodes by reading the value of the managed resources in the MIB (which addresses each entity through an object identifier (OID)). The MIB is used by Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and remote monitoring 1 (RMON1).
