Personal cloud storage (PCS) is a device that enables users to store data in a private cloud running on equipment they own and control. These local network-attached storage (NAS) devices offer better performance than a public cloud and do not require monthly subscription fees.
PCS devices have a CPU, memory (typically in the 1 to 2TB range), and an OS, and they plug into a Wi-Fi router with an Ethernet cord. Other common names for PCS are mobile cloud storage or pocket cloud storage.
