What is Vertical Scaling?

Vertical scalability (also known as scaling up) describes the process of adding extra resources (CPU, RAM, disk space, etc.) to an IT system to meet workload demands. Unlike horizontal scaling, which adds more machines to the resource pool, vertical scaling meets IT needs by upgrading the existing resources.
