A parallel port is a device connector that uses a group of up to 25 wires to simultaneously transmit or receive multiple bits of data. Parallel ports were extensively used in the past, mostly connecting to peripherals such as printers, scanners, and CD readers. Today, the technology has been almost completely replaced with the USB standard.
