ACK (short for "acknowledgment") is a digital signal sent by the data recipient to the source, confirming that the data was successfully received. The signal usually consists of a single reserved ASCII character. The opposite signal, signifying an unsuccessful data reception, is called NACK or NAK (short for "negative acknowledgment").
