A solid-state drive (SSD) is a data storage device that uses non-volatile memory to store and retrieve data. Unlike a traditional hard disk drive (HDD), an SSD does not have moving parts. This allows for faster access times, lower power consumption, and quiet operation.
SSDs are now affordable and can be found in laptops, desktops, and servers. There are different types of SSDs: SATA, M.2, NVMe, PCIe, U.2, and SAS. The fastest type is PCIe SSD, but NVMe uses the same PCIe interface with fewer channels and is only slightly slower.
